We attended our friends wedding last weekend and had a TON of fun! Lets just say not only was there a serve yourself candy station, build your own mac and cheese for dinner, but they also had their own version of BUTTERBEER! (all you non Harry Potter fans better just read up if you want to know what I'm talking about!) 

I love a wedding...all the happy people, family and friends, dancing and good food and getting all gussied up is always fun too! (especially if you get a brand new dress, like I did!)

...and look, the Mr. even agreed to be in a photo with me! how dapper he looks!!

I am going to just pretend like I haven't been tragically absent from the blog (don't worry, it was only due to pure laziness!) and just resume my sporadic/hopefully more regular posting!  

So, not to sound like everyone else all summer, but 'DANG, it's hot out lately!' right?  just look at all of those sad dead leaves in my backyard! its only July, there should not be crunchy fall leaves that need to be raked! (or mowed into oblivion, as may be the case in our yard!)

This heat has lead to a bit of a personal fashion drought (see what I did there? haha) My standard wardrobe has been cut-off shorts and breezy tops/ tiny tank tops.... so basically this exact outfit.  It has made me yearn for fall and cooler temperatures so I can get out of this style rut!

I've been forced to get creative with ways of keeping my crazy hot hair up and breezy (seriously I feel like I am wearing a super thick wool hat on my head most of the time).  Braids have been my cure for the boredom of the daily top knot bun.  And I rather like this particular side braid/ wrap thing I concocted today.

I am getting excited for Valentines day! It is one of my favorite holidays! Despite all of the halmark-ness that it has become Ive always loved a holiday that encourages crafting and baking!! as evidenced by these past posts, here, here and here and here and here.. yikes, I LOVE to craft! and of course I love to love and celebrate all that mushy good stuff! I'll show you what I've been working on for THIS Valentines day soon! xoxo

stumbling stilts

these are the tallest shoes that I have ever owned! I was feeling really proud of myself for being so brave and just accepting that I am REALLY tall in these bad boys and for being able to walk in them at all... that was until this past Sunday.... when a combination of post brunch shopping, joking around with my girlfriends (and maybe a mimosa or two) lead to me falling off my shoes and directly onto my booty in the middle of Urban Outfitters...it was pretty brutal but all in all only my pride was hurt, but it was hurt pretty bad. All in all it was pretty hilarious!

dirty little secret

okay, heres my secret.....I HATE taking showers in the winter....are you totally grossed out?? heres the deal, it's not the actual shower, I love being all warm in a hot shower, its the getting out and being freezing for forever and having to do something with my massive amount of wet hair and all of the personal grooming that goes into a gals (at least this gal's) post shower routine! I am constantly amazed that my husband can take a shower and be entirely ready to go in 10 minutes. It takes me at least an hour to recover from a shower and I never feel like I can really warm back up! ( disclaimer...I am a big fan of the cat bath, a washcloth and a sink can mask, i mean, clean a lot!) Why am I admitting all this?? well, this is my roundabout way of trying to justify my crazy top-knot/ Pebbles Flinstone hair. This is the only hairstyle that I can muster after 4 days of not showering... oh the lengths I'll go to in order to not be cold!! sheesh!

my sweet sister in law took these photos while we were still in Kansas for Christmas break.....it seems like it was way more than just a week ago that I wasn't working and I was spending my days relaxing with family. My vacation went by waaay too fast in a whirl of gifts and food and friends and sickness and some wild nights (NEW YEARS EVE, wow!)! Now I have to reacclimate myself to working my normal 9-5/m-f gig (after a month of working Nutcracker in the theater and then a week of vacation it is proving VERY difficult to wake up in the am!)

I took down all of our christmas decorations this week, so sad... my living room looks very large without the tree, and my kitty misses knocking down every ornament. alas. Speaking of christmas...this cute lacey top was an x-mas gift from my sister and these new jeans are one of my fave xmas scores! yay christmas... I will miss you sooo! until next year!

christmas duds

Ryan and I spent christmas with his family this year, as a married couple we've taken to switching holidays between our respective families. So this year we spent Thanksgiving in Colorado with my family and Christmas in Kansas with his family. We had a beautiful fun-filled and festive day. I always wonder how it is that sitting around opening gifts, chatting and catching up and eating copious amounts of food can be so darn exhausting??? we were all wiped by the end of the night!


This year we decided to dress up for our christmas dinner. So, I found this vintage dress a few weeks ago while thrifting and although it needed some altering (it was HUGE! and had crazy baggy sleeves), it was just the perfect Christmas red, so I bought it. In the end I wasn't totally happy with its shape but it worked..... and after I threw on my favorite christmas coat and some textured tights I felt super festive! (again, I wish I could wear my coats all day, sometimes they just make an outfit!)


I snapped this picture of a pretty christmas sunset last night while walking my puppy. The sky is always amazingly beautiful out in the Kansas countryside!

christmas elf

Several people have called me a christmas elf today! I think it is a combination of my little green dress and that I have been passing out christmas goodies today!!
