Christmas countdown: t - 3 days!

Whilst I've been Christmas shopping the past few weeks I keep on having this huge problem!  Here it is.... I shop for myself!  I know, Its awful, and soooo not in the christmas spirit, but what can I say, I am a glutton for clothes!  I got this cute leather skirt at SAVERS, my new favorite thrift store (this one happens to be located in Johnson county, the 2nd wealthiest county in the USA, so the clothes are pretty phenomenal!)  not to mention that it is  really well organized for a thrift store!  I have recently been obsessed with the idea of a leather skirt and I now have two ( I got the other one on sale at forever 21).  I feel like a leather skirt can bring the right amount of edginess to an outfit, while still being feminine.
skirt: thrifted, SAVERS!, tights: F21, boots: gift, top: ATC
So, on a more christmasy note, here are some shots from around my house of xmas decorations.  I call this area of my house "the shrine"  and it changes seasonally, but always includes bones and my polaroids (two of my favorite things)!
I made these snow globes using a tutorial I found in a Martha Stewart book, I then saw it again here on the Free People blog.
My mom always has a bijillion paper whites around her house during the christmas season, and for me the scent of them is synonymous with Christmas!
Today has been super crazy busy!  Ive been wrapping gifts galore and trying to get organized.  I have a two show day tomorrow and then weather permitting Ryan and I are going to Hutchinson to spend xmas with his family....my new in laws to be!

Christmas countdown: t - 4 days!

So, one of my favorite parts about Christmas is all of the Christmas crafting that goes on!   Last year I made these cute little godseye ornaments for our tree!

This year I've been working on lots of little birdie ornaments, I debated showing them, as some of my readers will be recieving them, but in the end I couldn't resist sharing them!  Aren't they adorable?!
I don't know why I look so grumpy in this photo, I really had a great day, but go figure!

sweater: H&M, skirt: (really a dress) Urban Outfitters, tights: Target, boots: graduation gift (?)

I have more crafts in the works, but I can't post those until AFTER xmas!

christmas countdown: t - 5 days!

Well, as I am sure that I have mentioned before I am currently in the middle of our annual performance of The Nutcracker... aka I am crazy busy!  Today we have a 'two show day' which means we have a matinee and a night show, back to back.  So my outfit is all about comfort!

In honor of my GREAT love of all things christmasy I am going to post something xmas related every day until the BIG day!    I lovelove love the candy cane throne that we use in our nutcracker production, its just slightly tacky, but totally gorgeous.  I tried to get a photo a few days ago, but it was on its moving coaster, wheely, thingy, so basically, I almost ruined the show for all of the kiddies.  I got a second go at the photo when a bunch of kids were gonna get their photo taken as well and the throne was put on the ground.... I know, total dork!  yay christmas!

true blue.

dress: Forever 21, tights: Target, boots: thrifted, sweater: Capezio dance shop
Ahh, a sunny, bright skied day today (although it was only about 17 degrees today)! We have our dress rehearsal for the Nutcracker today and there are still quite a few things that need to happen before the show, I still haven't decided if I am going to wear this outfit to the theater or not, although it is comfortable, I already stick out amongst all of the rugged stagehands and to be honest I don't know if I want the extra attention today!

Monday= my day of rest!

jeans: Urban Outfitters, shirt: Walmart, booties: Urban Outfitters, sweater: Nordstroms
ahhhh, I finally had a chance to do....well, nothing!  I loved my day today!  I finally did laundry and had fun playing dress up, with all of the clothing that had been lost in the bottom of my laundry basket.  I got these cute jeans at Urban a few weeks ago, they were on sale and I chose to buy them without trying them on first, probably not smart, since they are REALLY tight...but I'm making them work!  I got these cute bootie heels a few years back and I can never bring myself to wear them to work (Im not very good at balancing, and I'm on my feet all day),  but they were actually pretty comfy today.  Aren't these photos cool?  I think the magic from my xmas tree is making pretty things happen...
Ryan and I had a relaxing afternoon, we went and saw A Christmas Carol, in 3D! It was pretty fun, that 3D stuff is so trippy, my stomach was jumping all over the place!  I had to wear both pairs of glasses (my own + 3D glasses)! I know, I'm such a nerd.... speaking of nerdiness, I made Ryan take a photo of me at lunch, flashing my bling!!  yay, engagement ring!

the proposal Picture!

So, I've been crazy busy, since Friday.  I work at the Kansas City Ballet and we just moved into the theater to put up our production of Nutcracker!  I've been building a frock coat, and trying to organize about 200 kid dancers and get them all on stage in costume...ugh! crazy,  so I have today off! YIPPPEEEE.  I am still wearing my pajamas and cuddling with my kitty, so no outfit posts yet, but as soon as I get my butt in gear I'll try and catch up with my style pics!  for now Im just gonna show you all the photo booth photo from my proposal!
So, Ryan said that in the first photo he was trying to decide if he was gonna go for it or not and then in the second photo he kissed me so that he could reach into his pocket, and then in the third one I am snatching the ring out of his hand (hehe) and then we are engaged!

WHAT a day!

sweater: ATC, skirt: Forever 21, tights: target, long socks: Target, boots: thrifted

well, I was all set to give you all a little synopsis of my job as of late...BUT , boy oh boy, what a day.. Im not even sure where to start...  Well, today was a really hard day, (awful hair day, as you can tell by the photos, I took some headless shots so you wouldn't be distracted by my crazy morning hair!)  Not to mention that work was crazy busy and intense! ( I am currently building a frock coat for Nutcracker, which goes to the theater tomorrow, so it needed to be done, like, yesterday)

I was supposed to meet my boyfriend, Ryan, after work at a local bar where there is a photo booth, we were planning on using a photo booth photo for our holiday cards.  Unfortunately I had to work late and then we found out that the bar no longer had the photo booth, so we tried ANOTHER bar, and then we crammed into the tiny little booth (I'm 5' 10" and he is 6'2", so thats a lot of body in a small space) ... and, ugh, the machine wouldn't take our $$, so we tried and tried and I was getting hot (still wearing my coat) and annoyed and totally ready to just bag the whole thing when finally it took our last dollar and the camera went off and suddenly....Ryan was proposing to me!!!!!AHHHHHHHHHAHHHH! (total freak out moment)

WHEW!  It was amazing and I am so excited for our life together...we'd been planning on getting married, so I knew this was coming, but it felt so magical and I just feel so lucky and excited!  anywho, that is how a bad day becomes a fantastic day!   (i'll post the photo booth photo tomorrow!.. its super cute)

SNOW!

dress: mom's closet, sweater: Walmart, boots: thrifted, belt: ATC, tights: Target

We had our first snow of the season last night, and I'm so excited!  Everything seems so magical and ..... white.  Not to mention that the sun finally showed its shiny face after about a week of being oh, so, elusive!  I went for the layered look today and gave the double tights a go ( you can't really tell but im wearing black tights with brown fishnets on top).  The dress I'm wearing is one of my favorites, it used to be my moms, she had it made for her back in the 60's when she and my dad lived in Okinawa, Japan.  I found it when I was in middle school and I've been rocking it ever since, it's a bit on the short side...especially on my legs!

i wish i wish...

so, I was still feeling that rock and roll vibe from last nights show, so I chose to rock my Thunder Eagle shirt today, I also know that I am gonna have a crazy day at work today, so comfort was key...
skirt: thrifted, belt: ATC, tights: Target, shirt: Thunder Eagle
....unfortunately you cant see my cute Minnetonka furry boots, I am realizing that I not only need a tripod ( I am currently shooting of the back of my car trunk), but I am also drooling all over the Nikon D90....

...so, thats all I want for xmas....what are you guys asking for the holidays?

new plan...

so, here's the deal, I seem to go through these phases of intense blogging followed by large gaps of zero blogging... so in an effort to make myself more culpable to you all (my avid readers) and as a sort of personal experiment I am going to follow the lead of some of my favorite blogs, such as, the clothes horsedelightfully tackyKansas Couture.... by..... doing a daily outfit photo. We will see if this makes me a more responsible blogger and perhaps a more thoughtful dresser?!

So to start off with this new plan I give you a double whammy! Today I wore my work clothing followed by party clothes, as I am going to go see my boyfriends band, Thunder Eagle this evening!
sweater: thrifted, jeans: gap, boots: Boomerang, scarf:gift from Nordstroms

coat: target, purse: Alverra st., hat: Urban Outfitters

dress: made by Angela (thought on Spots), boots: thrifted, belt: dav, tights: target, cat: Simon

Soooo..... let me know what you think of the blog style!

young love

This morning, whilst perusing my favorite blogs, I came across a post on Design Sponge about one of my favorite artist, Olivia Bee. Olivia is a mere 14 years old, but her photos portray her as an old soul, with a dreamy, inspiring point of view. I love just going through her website and getting lost in her beautiful world, you should definetly check out what she has to say to Design Sponge, after looking at her art so much it is nice to finally hear her voice!
have a lovely day and enjoy every beautiful moment!

hhhaaaoooowwwwlll!

Well, I'm about to tell you all a great big secret.....ready?....I am a dork.   okay, I said it, it's true, and to prove it unequivocally, I  must tell you that, yes, I was one of the millions of Twilight fans standing in line to see the New Moon premiere last night!   AHHHHHH!  it was such fun!  I went with my pal Hilary, who attended the Twilight premiere with me last year.  We both love Twilight, but unfortunately she is an Edward fan and I am a Jacob fan.  (yay, team Jacob!)

We both proved our alliance with fun crafty projects!  Hilary made cute "Team Edward" button.  she printed the logo on fabric!
I repurposed a stained t-shirt by drawing a wolf/landscape with fabric pens!  I think it turned out great, and I already have lots of orders for more!

Yay, Team Jacob!

wish list....

Just a quick little pretty for you!  this necklace from Modcloth is soooo perfect, I would love to rock it!  its going on the wish list as of NOW.

coo coo for costumes

Well, I've felt like my life is crazy before, but this week is topping the crazy charts!  The KC Ballet fall show opens this thursday night, so we have been putting the finishing touches on all of the costumes, and we moved everything to the theater yesterday.  After yesterdays run-through we have many little repairs and tweaks that need to happen today!  oye vay!
In the midst of all of this I took on a little halloween costume project for a friends daughter, who wanted to be a"fire fairy"... It turned out super cute, if I say so myself!
All of this work tends to make me a little crazy, here's a shot of me in the costume shop with a spat on my head!  don't ask why...
